Tapping heals

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique is essentially a talking therapy that doesn’t just uncover the issues but aims to actually resolve them. Unlike some conventional therapists, I don't believe you should be in therapy for years! EFT works remarkably quickly. Some issues can be resolved in a single session, others take longer depending on their complexity, but you should certainly feel progress after every session.

The science bit

There are over 250 global studies showing the effectiveness of EFT as a therapy.  It has shown to be at least as effective as CBT.

It’s based on the undisputed fact we are all made up of energy and this travels around our body via our meridians – the Chinese have used this in medicine for thousands of years.

When this energy gets blocked – for example as a result of trauma - it can cause both physical and emotional symptoms.

Tapping on points on your meridians shifts these blockages and sends calming electrical impulses directly to a region of the brain called the amygdala, helping your brain to process these emotions.  A single EFT session has been shown in studies to reduce the body's cortisol (stress hormone) level directly afterwards by 43%.

I like to think of it as emotional acupuncture, but without the needles!

  • What is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) or tapping?
Emotional Freedom Technique, commonly known as EFT or tapping, is a therapeutic technique that combines elements of Eastern medicine, specifically acupuncture, with modern psychology. It involves tapping on specific acupressure points on the body while focusing on a specific issue or problem, aiming to balance the body's energy system and alleviate emotional or physical distress.
  • How does EFT work?
EFT works on the premise that emotional and physical issues arise from disruptions in the body's energy system. By tapping on specific meridian points, EFT aims to restore balance and release blocked energy. This process can help alleviate negative emotions, reduce stress, and promote a sense of emotional well-being.
  • What are the benefits of EFT?
EFT has been reported to have various benefits, including: Stress reduction: EFT tapping can help reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of overwhelm. Cortisol in the body is reduced. Emotional relief: It can alleviate negative emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, or guilt. Pain management: Some individuals have found EFT helpful in managing physical pain or discomfort. Improved performance: EFT has been used to address performance anxiety and improve focus and concentration. Trauma recovery: EFT has been utilized in trauma treatment to reduce the emotional impact of past experiences.
  • Can I use EFT for self-help?
Yes, EFT can be used as a self-help tool. Many people learn the basic tapping techniques and use them on their own to address specific issues or to manage stress and emotional well-being. However, for more complex or deep-rooted issues, it may be beneficial to work with an experienced EFT practitioner.
